In fashion, as in life, the New Year is often associated with fresh starts – a new season, looking ahead into the future, and trying out new and unexpected things. No shame in admitting you bought a couple (or an entire wardrobe) of new outfits to embrace the new year, new you phenomena that seems to be a routine occurrence at the start of the year (Or was that just me?). I don’t know about you, but I find it deeply satisfying to see all my new shoes lined up in my closet and my clothes aligned in a meek attempt to embrace the trends of the new season—my pretty little soldiers, ready for action. As I write this late one afternoon, while sunlight fades into the horizon, I can’t help but reflect on how my year have gone by, how the turbulence of our world have swept me into the roaring tumult of bittersweet upheavals in almost every aspect. But one thing that have always kept me on my feet and soldier on is the knowledge that you need to always inject a bit of humour and fun into every situation you are in, and to keep a positive mindset. And that is why I choose to indulge in fashion, as having fun is an essential part of fashion. Whether it’s getting ready for a day at work or prepping for a night out, dressing should always feel like play, not drudgery. And thankfully, the designers agree as they bring fourth an explosion of off-kilter colour combinations, eclectic prints and unbalanced silhouettes. Here, I bring you my edit of the pieces I would personally indulge in, for if life has taught me anything, it is that moments of beauty and joy, no matter how small, are to be cherished, celebrated and shared.
